On February 18th, 1983, thirteen people gathered inside the Wah Mee Gambling Club in Seattle’s Chinatown–International District. By the end of the night, twelve of them would be dead. This episode covers the full story of the Wah Mee massacre — from the neighborhood it happened in, to the robbery that turned into one of the largest mass killings in Washington state history, to the investigation that followed. We walk through what happened inside that basement room, how one man survived, how detectives identified three suspects, and how the case unfolded in court. This wasn’t random chaos. It was controlled, deliberate, and carried out in a confined space where everyone complied — and it still didn’t matter. We also examine the impact on the CID community, the legal battle that stretched across international borders, and what this case changed for Seattle moving forward. This episode contains discussion of violence and murder. Please listen with care.
